Lets use the chance to be unique again!We will all die – but not now – so lets plan our next step.

The world is talking to open upagain. Slowly - but they have to before everybody gets nuts. Restaurants, bars hotels, tourism in general will have to wait much longer. For many businesses in our field it is the death penalty. The is a fact we can not ignore. A sad fact when I think about all the wonderful places with wonderful people who put their energy in providing hospitality and taking care of guest. It is a hard job as we all know. Physically and mentally. But we stayed with it or returned because we love what we do. We miss the action, the colleagues, the team spirit and the feeling – we are tired but we will do it today again!

We have to wait much longer

Lets face reality and think a little about the turns in the past so we can do better in the future. We have to get back on our feet – so we better use the time now to think how. Yes – it’s a depressing time but believe me once you start thinking about the future more positive ways will come.

The past? Is past!

Fast profits were and are the goals of companies with 5000 hotels and more. Franchises like MacDonald’s who even don’t care which garbage they feet you and your children. Corporations like Carnival that only want profit. Environmental damage? Better then paying the garbage pick up. Salaries of 2$ an hour? Good – they still apply! Tax evasion? Of course its sanctioned by our politicians! But they are still hospitality. Not the ones that give our business a good name though. The big problem is they are boring. All the same. No creativity, no care, nothing special.

People want to get out again!

And this is our chance. Maybe first country wide without crossing borders. But they want to go out. Go out to the coffee shop, the restaurant, the street side bar, the club and the sausage stand. Its our chance. We have to be there as we always were.

Think how – with whom – and for who!

Lets not leave it to the boring big chains where everything is the same. Lets be unique and I am sure the guest will come back. Lets be more local – more sustainable – more community supporting. It will be hard! But – wasn’t it always hard for us?
